Toor Dhal

This Toor Dhal is a traditional Indian recipe and is simple to cook. The lentils is high in protein and fibre. This dish goes perfect served with steamed rice, other vegetarian dishes such as Cauliflower peas and potatoes or Indian bread (e.g. roti, naan). The fresh tomatoes and coriander help give this dish a freshness to it and it is a recipe we love to cook, especially on a cold winters day, most Saturdays this dish is cooked with another vegetarian dry dish along with ghee rice and papadoms.

Most of the ingredients can be found in your local supermarkets, but if you have a local Asian store please visit them, they are always willing to help their customers to find the best produce and ingredients.

Toor Daar

Toor Daar is part of indian Thali eaten with Boiled rice

  • Prep Time : 5 to 10 minutes
  • Cook Time : 20 minutes

Instructions

In a pressure cooker boil the Toor daar in 2 cups of water , salt and oil.  If you do not have a pressure cooker, soak the Toor daar overnight and boil it in a sauce pan until it desolves. So in a pressure cooker boil it until 3 to 4 whistles.

Open the pressure cooker after the pressure has gone down. Put the tomatoes and with a liquidiser whisk until the tomatoes desolves Put all the dried ingredients and bring it to boil.

 

In another pan put the the remainder oil. When the oil is hot put the red chillies mustard seed until they pop and asofoetida. Have a lid handy turn off the fire and out the daar mixture and cover. Open the cover turn on the fire and bring it to boil.  Taste to your t  liking add any salt or red chillies to your taste.

To finish the dish put the chopped corriander leaves.
